Welcome to the Fine Arts Department of Thornton Township High School District 205. The Fine Arts Department includes four content areas:
The Fine Arts Department believes that the quality of a student's education can be greatly enriched by taking courses offered in the Fine Arts. The skills and values developed when taking Fine Arts courses enable students to function on multiple intellectual, analytical and emotional levels. Courses are designed to prepare students who wish to pursue a career in the arts as well as for the student who wishes to broaden their cultural awareness and experience the enjoyment the fine arts can afford. The Fine Arts Department wishes to provide students with an appreciation of artistic expression, artistic heritage and of artistic and cultural diversity.
Fine Arts students in the entire district participate in many local, state, regional and national festivals and competitions, and are known for their excellent performance standards. Students involved in speech, music and theatre competitions have won many state awards and speech students have qualified to compete at the prestigious National Forensic League National Tournament. Our students are often the top competitors in the nation. Courses and extra-curricular activities in the Fine Arts Department provide experiences which focus on enrichment, background for professional development, creativity, personal expression, social interaction and cultural understanding.
